KARACHI: Australia declared their first innings on 556-9 early on the third day of the second Test against Pakistan in Karachi on Monday.
With the tourists resuming on 505-8, paceman Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed Mitchell Starc off the second ball of the day, caught by Azhar Ali off a miscued drive for 28.
Skipper Pat Cummins was 34 not out and debutant Mitchell Swepson 15 as Australia added 51 runs to their overnight total.
Allrounder Faheem Ashraf (2-55) and spinner Sajid Khan (2-167) were the main wicket-takers for Pakistan.
Australia had won the toss and elected to bat first.
They are on their first tour of Pakistan for 24 years, having previously refused to tour the country over security fears.
The first Test ended in a draw.
