JEDDAH: A Saudi woman with coronavirus gave birth to a healthy baby while on heart and lung support in a Madinah hospital, the Saudi Press Agency said on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old woman was placed on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machine during the delivery at Uhud Hospital.
An ECMO machine acts as a pump to circulate the patient’s blood through an artificial lung.
The procedure was supported by the Dr. Sulaiman Al-Habib Medical Hospital Group and supervised by a medical team from King Abdullah Medical Complex in Jeddah.
Moayad Abu Unq, Madinah’s health affairs spokesman, said that both the mother and baby are receiving medical care.
“The baby is in a completely stable position and both cases are under the supervision of an integrated medical team from the region’s health affairs,” he added.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia announced 36 more deaths from COVID-19 and 1,389 new confirmed cases on Wednesday.
