ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur this week announced Rs100 million ($359,901) in aid for the people of Gaza, his aide on information and public relations confirmed, as the death toll in Palestine rises amid a worsening humanitarian crisis.
The death toll in Gaza since Oct. 7 2023 has surged to over 32,000 people, many of them women and children, as Israel continues its relentless air and ground military offensives against the people of the densely populated territory.
Pakistan is among several nations that have called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and demanded Palestinians be provided unhindered access to food, medical aid and other facilities as international organizations warn of imminent famine and the outbreak of diseases in the area.
“Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has announced Rs100 million in aid for the oppressed people of Gaza,” a statement from Barrister Dr. Muhammad Ali Saif, his special assistant on information and public relations, said on Saturday.
Saif said the Palestinian ambassador to Pakistan would “soon” be given the amount, which would be used to buy items of necessary use for the people of Gaza.
“KP government stands with the oppressed people of Gaza during this difficult hour,” Dr. Saif said, urging Muslim countries and the international community to play their part in helping the people of Palestine.
Pakistan does not have diplomatic relations with Israel and has consistently demanded an independent Palestinian state based on “internationally agreed parameters” and the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
