ISLAMABAD: Minister for Maritime Affairs Faisal Ali Subzwari met UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Al-Zaabi on Tuesday to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation, especially in the maritime sector, Pakistan's maritime affairs ministry said.
The UAE envoy called on Subzwari in Islamabad and extended his felicitations to the minister on assuming his new responsibility. He also assured him of the UAE’s close collaboration and support for Pakistan in its development of the maritime sector.
Home to 1.6 million Pakistani expats, the UAE is Islamabad’s key development and trade partner in the Middle East and a major source of investments and foreign remittances for the South Asian country.
“The minister [Faisal Subzwari] expressed his desire to enhance industrial collaboration in the maritime sector that would be a win-win situation for both nations,” the maritime ministry said, adding that “the ambassador stressed the importance of maintaining close collaboration to enhance development which was acknowledged by the minister.”
In the meeting, the two acknowledged that there exists a lot of potential for the two countries to enhance their relationship.
“Minister for Maritime Affairs highlighted the huge potential for development in the maritime sector and assured the ambassador that his team is heavily engaged in bringing together all developing partners and enhancing mutual cooperation,” the ministry said.
The UAE embassy said in a tweet that the ambassador “discussed ways to strengthen bilateral partnership, future projects and issues of common interest between the two countries.”
