DUBAI: Emirati social media star Rashid Al-Nuaimi, who has become a viral sensation for his coronavirus-themed song, was nominated for a theatrical award in the US.

“A huge congratulations to our very own Rashed Al-Nuaimi for getting nominated in the Elliot Norton Awards for Outstanding Musical Performance by an Actor,” Boston’s New Repertory Theatre shared on Instagram regarding the nod for Al-Nuaimi’s role in widely popular production “Oliver!”

But organizers said no live ceremony will be held due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Instead, the winners will be revealed in a virtual event on May 11.

Al-Nuaimi, who played the villainous Bill Sykes, took to social media to thank artistic director Michael Bobbitt and the theater company for giving him his first theatrical production opportunity.
